Add a Chief Health Officer to Your Team

Who do you have looking out for your health?
Most people know exactly how much money they have left in their bank account, yet have no idea what their health status is.  At best they go for an annual doctor checkup and "hope for the best."  At worst the get dragged to the hospital only when completely sick, or never go at all.

Is that your health strategy?

There are numerous aspects that contribute to your health, and you probably know them all -- the food you eat, the amount of exercise you do, the level of stress in your life, the chemistry in your body, the condition of your bones, muscles and organs, etc.

How often do you meet with a doctor, dentist, nutritionist, psychiatrist, etc.?  Once a year?  Only when you're sick?  If you're not meeting with someone to review your physical and mental health every eight weeks, minimally, then you're not meeting with them enough.

In the business world there are officers to manage the financials, officers to manage the operations, officers to manage the marketing, officers to manage the technology, and so on and so forth.  Employees are expected to have the sufficient knowledge and expertise to handle these tasks.  However, there is little emphasis placed on having employees remain in top physical and health condition; even though the facts show that healthier employees are often happier, more productive, and generally more successful.

As a self-made sage, however, you don't wait for an outside group to mandate something like this.  You take personal accountability for making it happen.

Health care in the U.S. is a major political issue, and this blog won't make any assumptions about the health coverage available to you.  But too many people find themselves spending money on fancy restaurants, unnecessary gadgets, new clothes, club memberships, weekend entertainment, etc., and yet won't see a doctor more than once a year because of the extra co-pay.

Don't fall into that trap.

Find someone that can become the Chief Health Officer of your team.  Someone who follows your progress, makes recommendations, and offers guidance specifically on your personal health.  If that person is your doctor, fine.  If it's a spouse or a trusted friend, fine.  If it's a neighbor or the mail person, so be it... but you must have one in your sage life focused on your health.

Just as you would keep track of income and expenses in your bank account, the CHO of your team will ensure you keep up with all exams; will measure your progress for things like weight targets, BMI, cholesterol levels, etc.; and track any medicines or supplements you're taking.  Perhaps you would prefer to handle these tasks on your own, but the point is make sure you have someone to regularly review the progress with you and keep you on track.

A self-made sage not only cares about their health but makes it a true priority in their life.  Make sure health is top of your priority list as well.
